FEMA Proposed Maps Update
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has proposed new floodplain boundaries for Culpeper County.

After August 8, 2019, FEMA will hold a 90-day appeal period.  Revised maps are scheduled to be effective in Culpeper County after this appeal period. FEMA has specific appeal procedures and criteria. Please see letter, dated July 25, 2019, regarding appeal procedure and separate link regarding criteria for appeals. Please feel free to reach out directly to FEMA or the Planning and Zoning Department regarding this process.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has proposed new floodplain boundaries for Culpeper.

A wealth of resources is available at www.fema.gov as well as at the following:

  • The FEMA Map Service Center (MSC), www.msc.fema.gov , if the official public source for flood hazard information produced in support of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Use the MSC to find your official flood map, access a range of flood hazard products, and take advantage of additional tools.
  • Information related to the NFIP and flood insurance ins available at www.floodsmart.gov
  • Map specialists are available at the FEMA Map Information Exchange (FMIX) to assist customers with locating and reading flood maps, applying for Letter of Map Change (LOMC), and obtaining and understanding Elevation Certificates, FMIX also serves to connect stakeholders with a wide range of technical subject matter experts.
